Farmer’s Kites rents out Surrey bikes which seat up to 5, take a ride on the new bike trail to Morro Rock. For a round of golf try Morro Bay's bayside premiere golf course, or one of many other spectacular courses in the county. Discover the entire coastline by driving up world famous Highway 1, right along the cliffs and shores of the Pacific Ocean. The town of Cambria is known for its many unique restaurants &amp; wonderful works by local artists. Plan to take a tour of Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The castle was the dream of newspaper/magazine magnate William Randolph Hearst, who began construction of the castle in 1919, after falling in love with the area after camping there as a child. You are likely to see zebras roaming, and other exotic animals, descendants of W.R. Hearst’s personal zoo. Castle tour tickets may require advance purchase. An IMAX theatre shows spectacular films including the making of Hearst Castle. North of San Simeon you will find elephant seals lying side by side covering the beaches. Breeding season begins in December. Male elephant seals are up to sixteen feet long, weighing up to 2 1/2 tons, the bulls engage in violent battles to establish dominance. Births are usually first observed in late December and continue increasingly through February, peaking near mid-February. It is estimated that about 3500 pups are born yearly at the Piedras Blancas rookery. Drive on up Hwy 1 a bit further, Ragged Point is a great place to stop and grab a bite or take breathtaking photographs of the rocky shoreline there Heading back south on Highway 1, take Cayucos Drive exit, then set out for a leisurely stroll onto Cayucos Pier where you may see dolphins playing alongside surfers in the waves. Cayucos has a variety of unique restaurants and an old West saloon, the Cayucos Tavern.Back in Morro Bay rent kayaks and enjoy the estuary close up, or sail the wild Pacific just beyond the breakwater, where you can get a completely different look at 576 foot tall “Morro Rock” and the coastline. The north side of “The Rock” is a favorite surf spot. If you have arrived during whale watching season, a boat tour from Morro Bay harbor may be in order. Hungry?
